Harness Racing

In Harness Racing horses, the pacing gait results in an unnatural 'rolling' action as the horse bears weight on the fore and hind legs on the same side in an alternate sequence.

This increases the rotational movement of the 'coupling' joint, which can result in the development of arthritis within the joint.

Standardbred horses generally continue a racing career throughout their adolescence into their early teens. Most horses will race twice weekly and train twice daily which can predispose them to musculoskeletal dehydration, dysfunction and inflammation of joints. Complication from the bilateral movement and restrictive hobbles can force excessive strain on the nuchal ligament, latissimus dorsi, sternocephalic, medial gluteal and longtissimus dorsi muscle.

Common recorded Harness Racing problems that Equissage can help with are;
  • Concussive soft tissue inflammation and dysfunction
  • Spasmodic muscular tension over the back
  • Dehydration and muscle atrophy
  • Continued support to maintain muscle health via lymphatic drainage

With a basic understanding of the requirements of the pacing gait, the importance of strength, flexibility, hydration and function of the musculoskeletal system is vital for performance and longevity.

Equissage is a safe, easy to use, natural, non-aggressive and non-invasive way to effectively warm up and cool down your horse, prevent common issues, improve performance and maintain your horse in peak condition.
